#truth - “Color can make or break a space.”

Color - it’s a beautiful thing. The strategic use of color is one of the foundational elements for a successful interior design. It’s not something to be taken lightly!

Today’s spotlight color, Revere Pewter by Benjamin Moore, is quickly becoming one of my favorites because of its versatility. Based upon the lighting and reflectivity in a room, it’s depth of color can vary from a striking gray to light beige.

Revere Pewter is a neutral that plays well with nearly every color and one that offers a soothing backdrop for any room design.

I am currently in the midst of the remodel of a home, quite near The Scottsdale Princess Hotel and the TPC Golf Course in Scottsdale. It is a mid-sized home in a lovely boutique, gated community. The home was built in 1994, rich in curved arches, wall niches, oak cabinetry, and 2” x 2” tile counter tops. I’m sure you can imagine that it is worthy and ripe for a refreshing update.

Now well into the project, one of the biggest challenges we faced was to keep the existing 12” x 12” faux Saltillo tile with chiseled edges. The color ways mixed into the tile are very “southwest” at their core.

In the case of a home remodel and much like an intuitive architect draws design elements from the existing architectural structure in a home remodel, I find it important to remain loyal to and listen to key interior design elements with roots that trace to the home’s original design. Typically, these elements are right there waiting for our discovery and choice to highlight them yet again.

The original elements that spoke to me (and weren’t going away), were the multitude of colors that played out from within each individual floor tile. The colors range from dark walnut brown, to reddish clay, to sand, to putty. There they were, artwork right in front of me!

My study for the perfect wall color thus began. Watch how this lovely color morphs into each of these room settings:

In these examples, I love how the brown, clay, red, and putty colors mix with Revere Pewter. I see each finished design as a huge success!

While giving the home a fresh coat of paint was not the only solution to modernizing its appearance, the strategic use of color in order to marry the old with the new, provided us an incredibly solid basis for the remaining modernizing efforts and techniques. Note the new colors that pull from the old floor, just after a coat of paint!

Well, what do you think so far? I’m excited to show you more progress soon!

Until then……….
