Color is word of the year in my book! It guides and directs the impressions and emotional responses in a given space and offers a platform for the uses, happiness, moodiness, peace, energy, excitement, and calm of those who enter.
Over the past year I have seen a trend within my clients design direction that indicates they are past the need for the extreme calm and comfort of neutral-only color pallets. It truly is exciting for me to see them open to and engaging with vibrant color integrated in their interior living spaces.
While the base of our design pallets may still be neutral to lay the foundation for the interior, we are adding rich, saturated colors like emerald green, tiger lily orange, shades of fuchsia and violet. Pare these saturated colors with the new metallic shades of “Champagne Bronze” and you have the makings of royalty.
QS Supplies, an online shop for bathroom supplies, located in London, UK, asked me to participate last year in the expert Designer opinion poll for color of the year. You can click here to see my choice for the 2018 Color of the Year and to read their overall results.
QS has now gathered this color trending input from Interior Designers for two years in a row, 2017 and 2018, and I what I noted is the definite presence of the “safe” neutral tones, including shades of green, blue, and beige, but also how the use of color in the 2018 chart has expanded. My prediction for color trending in 2019 is the same.
